Baked Steak Fries

Serves 4

 

Ingredients:

2 medium potatoes

2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil

½ tsp. sea salt

1 tsp. black pepper

Desired herbs or spices (see notes)

 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and line two baking sheets with aluminum foil
  2. Slice sweet potatoes into long pieces, the shape of a French fry about ¼” thick and place in a large bowl
  3. Add the oil, salt and pepper and any other desired spices (see notes for recommendations) and toss until potato pieces are well covered with the oil and spice mixture
  4. Spread pieces out evenly on prepared baking sheets
  5. Bake for 10 minutes then remove pans from oven and flip pieces over
  6. Place back in oven and continue baking for 10 to 15 more minutes, until crispy
  7. Remove from oven, serve and enjoy!

 

Notes:

  • Here are some spices fit for desired flavors:
    • Spicy- garlic, chili powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, cumin, coriander
    • Sweeter- cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice
    • Herbs- rosemary, basil, cilantro, oregano, parsley
    • Good combinations- cilantro and lime zest or juice, rosemary and lemon zest or juice, cinnamon and a touch of honey or maple syrup
  • You can also use small red, purple or gold potatoes and cut into quarters instead of long pieces then follow the same instructions
  • This recipe works well with Sweet Potatoes too!
    • Here are some herb and spice combinations for sweet potatoes:
      • Cinnamon and a glaze of honey or pure maple syrup
      • Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice
      • Lemon and rosemary or parsley
      • Basil and garlic
